I am not the first, the best, or the last.
This means I have to know my history, be humble, and make way for the next generation of artists. I was trained with an emphasis on art history and artisanship, my professors stressed the importance of knowing the rules before you break them. Recently I have found the writings of George Herbert Mead, and other American Pragmatists, influential in my work. I am currently interested in a person's relationship to society and their construction of self-identity in a Google search bar-fueled world.

Matt Perez is a sculptor from Northwest Indiana. Perez has a degree from the University of Southern Indiana where he specialized in sculpture and woodworking. After receiving the Efroymson Family Bridge Year Fellowship Perez graduated from the Visual Studies department at Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA).
